JULY 6 Scotland Edinburgh / Mortonhall Caravan Park (’11.5)

Head for Edinburgh, the capital of Scotland. From Newton Stewart, taking A702, A712, A701, I got there about 7 o'clock in the evening.

My first impression about Scotland is "Cold". I couldnft help having winter gloves and rain wear.
Most trees of the forest are conifers. The climate is like Subarctic.

Even south Scotland is cold enough for me and I am worried about Highland. It must be much colder.
And Scandinavia is more more c.

JULY 7 Scotland Edinburgh / Mortonhall Caravan Park (’11.5)

Edinburgh Catsle
Now I stay in a campsite outside Edinburgh.
I checked in at a backpackers hostel at first yesterday but a stupid thing made me cancel it.

Parking the motorbike just in front of the hostel, I checked in at the reception. My key holder disappeared somewhere unexpectedly while I was doing it.

It was just for 15 minutes. I looked for every places between the bike and receptions. It is about 10 meters. But not.  And checked all my pockets and bags, but I couldn't find it.
I didn't know why but I moved to this campsite just in case. Fortunately I had spare keys for the motorbike and other locks.

Today I went to the hostel again to ask staff about the key holder. And a staff member said, "I have it. Another employee picked at it"
I was lucky. But I have to be careful in future.

JULY 8 Scotland Aberdeen / Aberdeen Youth Hostel (’13.5)

We can listen here and there

Today I ran about 200km from Edinburgh to Aberdeen.

It was rainy all the time while I cruised. I was freezing. Mucus was running from my nose and some rain came in from my collar.

On rainy days, I can't see anything and I concentrate on riding.

I found a Youth Hostel outside Aberdeen and checked in.

JULY 9 Scotland@Braemar@B&B(15’)

Looks very delicious

It is raining again. I am fed up with it. I want no more rain.

I stopped running when I ran for about 100km. It is no fun cruising in the rain, and cold.

I checked in a B&B in a small village named Braemar.

Braemer is a quiet and nice village surrounded Grampian mountains. The B&B I stay is also nice with a big fireplace in the lounge and a bath tub in the room, in spite of the shabby looks.

After check-in, I walked in the village in the rain.

JULY 10 Scotland Lewiston / Loch Ness Backpackers Lodge (9.5’)

The castle and Loch Ness at night
When I woke up, it was raining again. I was almost giving up cruising but left the hostel at last when the rain slackened off. And to be tough luck, it got heavier as soon as I started. And it was much colder than yesterday. As I went over Grampian mountain range today and I was almost ding of cold. If it had been sunny, the road I took today would have been an excellent drive route with splendid mountain view. Very sorry.

At first, I was going to stay in Inverness, but hostels in the town didn't seem to have parking spaces. Therefore I moved to a small village 20km southwest from the Inverness. This is located by Loch Ness. Loch Ness is a long and narrow lake, which total length is about 40km and width is only 3km at the longest point.

As soon as I checked in, it stopped raining. And when I tried to walk around, it began to rain again. It is just like a comedy. I am sure god of weather are kidding me.
But as a whole, the weather has been bad for the several days.

At night, I went to see Loch Ness Castle with Mareschi family from Geneva and Karim from Paris with their car. After 7:30 in the evening, the gate was closed and nobody is there. That is what we intended. As a hostel man told us about it, we arrived there around 10:00, when the light-up at the castle started. We climbed over the fence and achieved "unlawful entry".
The ruin, which was built in the 13th century and was destroyed in the 17th century, looked really beautiful with golden colour for the light. And Lock ness as a background made me feel more romantic. I wish that Nessie had come out, but he didn't.
